So less time in the car and more time having fun !!
The oldest portion of the main building was originally built in 1908 for the first Police Constable of Warkworth, it was his family home & police station & had a jail house where unit 3 is now. In 1978, the property was purchased by a local pharmacist and became a private residence. An extensive refurbishment was then undertaken and the building, as it stands now, was completed. (the original jail can be viewed at Warkworth Museum)
In 2004 the property was bought by its current owners, Liz & Geoff Bays, who began yet another major building project. One of the biggest additions was the separate building which now contains units 1 to 4. In order for this building to keep a similar look to the original house, a roof was salvaged from an Albany home. The Warkworth Lodge was officially established and opened its doors as Warkworth's premier boutique motel in December 2006.

Hi we are Geoff & Liz Bays, owner operators of Warkworth Lodge. We are passionate about the Matakana Coast Wine Country region and enjoy helping guests experience it. From finding the perfect fishing spot to selecting the best itinerary of activities for your group.
The activities are abundant and all very close by.
We are both locals – Geoff, a printer by trade, grew up in Warkworth and Liz was raised on a dairy farm in nearby Tomarata - so we are both well-placed to advise you on all the great activities to do during your stay.
Watch out for regular introductions on face book to Warkworth Lodge helpers & their travel tips, such as Judi from Newfoundland who suggest getting along to the tasty Matakana markets for some locally produced treats. We love having travelers live & work with us and find the guests enjoy meeting our staff and sharing travel tips. No one understands a guest's needs like another traveler.
